It seems to appear that the Cardinals picked the man that they should have chosen 8 years ago.
Good observation, Observer.
He has his bonafides on the poor and humility, but his attitudes toward the distaff leave much to be desired. For myself I look forward to the 21st of March.
DeltaLawMama,
I saw someone else post elsewhere that since the new pope seems to be a truly humble man with a tradition for caring for the poor the press seems to be of the notion that it must therefore follow that he will soon embrace gay marriage and female priests.
People wanting gay marriage or the ordination of women aren’t going to like this pope any more than the last one. The honeymoon will end.
As I noted elsewhere, if the pope cracks down on the financially corrupt and the protectors of pederasts, he will exceed my low expectations. I don’t expect anything in the way of reform on contraception or celibacy, much less gay rights and female clergy.
… I didn’t know until today that Jesuits aren’t supposed to accept high church office. According to Wikipedia, a Jesuit bishop or cardinal ceases to be more than a nominal Jesuit, as that releases him from obedience to the Order.
