Off the Road Again and open thread

Just off the road, after court in South Mississippi, which left the natural option of a trip to New Orleans to see my kids, eat some of Donald Link’s incredible gumbo, catch some beads thrown by Drew Brees (pictoral evidence below), and to return to contemplate what tweaks I might make to my own gumbo.  My wife says leave it alone, but it’s startling to have one’s children suggest there’s another, better one out there.

Oh, and I haven’t really brought it up in the last few days:  WHO DAT!

Finally, I hesitate slightly to call an open thread here, because of the unpleasant tone in recent ones.  You guys try a little harder to play nice, ok?

The third picture, with its Cardinal, Viking, and Colt on a stake is on here for Will Bardwell, whose Twitter feed suggests he just didn’t enjoy the last few weeks of the NFL season.

since it is the month of cold weather and perfect wine drinking, roux stirring, gumbo making (mine with wild ducks and lots of pork fat!!), how about a new gumbo thread??

I know most readers here enjoy all things related to iPhones or pork. Well, how about iPhones AND pork? Here are a couple of links (no pun intended) about how South Koreans are using finger-sized sausages as pointers on their iPhones to keep from taking their gloves off in the cold.

Bart: Well, Jim, since you are my guest and I am your host, what’s your pleasure? What do you like to do?
    Jim: Oh, I don’t know. Play chess… screw…
Bart: [quickly] Well, let’s play chess.

That one’s a good ice breaker.

So … having broken the ice, I move that Mississippi allow the sale of Powerball and Lotto tickets. We’ll never get a state lottery of our own, but we should be allowed to participate in the national lotteries, at least.

Speakin’ of Lost Causes … sez right here that James Meredith is ginning up an initiatve for a new constitution for The Magnolia State. Rotsa ruck, James.

Lost Cause redux: drove 78 to Tupelo yestiddy. That big ole empty Toyota plant gave me the blues for a bit. Hope is a fleeting thing in our beloved state. We hope so high, but nothing much usually comes of it. Pity.

  • I do like the Vikings portion of that third photo.

Apparently the weather has a lot to do with the Saints winning the Super Bowl. Be safe, be prepared.

Marijuana> I agree with Dr. David L. Nathan, writing in the Wall Street Journal:

Anderson. Take heed. My office is three and half years old, and I am on my third PC laptop already. Of course I drag mine from Courthouse to Courthouse along two districts, which may have something to do with laptop life span.

Tom, From the looks of your pictures I was standing right next to you. Did you happen to see one of the saints players run off the float, grab a chicken on a stick from a local vendor, shotgun a beer, and jump back on the float?

  • NMC

The chicken on a stick stand was across St. Charles from me– I was on the lake side of St. Charles, right directly in front of Herbsaint.

  • Anderson

DLM, I will wrap mine in a pillow whenever it leaves my lap.

(Did you see my TBA post and comment here? I was spooked for a moment.)

How about one seperate County Ben, where we buy lotto tickets and Chico would be allowed to further support Dr. David Nathan. We’ll call it ROCK RIDGE!

  • rv livin

  • Anderson

Oops, I see NMC’s remark @ Westlaw post now. Would delete my earlier comment if I could.

Google liquid galaxy video released: This is one of the Google 20% projects, where they encourage employees to spend 20% of their company time developing their own projects, and this is what this fellow did.
