A strange blogging moment

I’m sitting in my front office, talking to a client.  The phone rings, and it’s a 504 number.  I told the runner (guessing mistakenly about who it might be), “I’ll take that one, find out who it is.”

The runner says “It’s Ashton O’Dwyer.”

I laugh a little and pick up the phone.  Here’s the entire conversation:

Me:  “Tom Freeland”

Voice:  “If you ever call me a racist again, you kike, Jew Motherfu–”

At this point, I hung up.  I will note that he’s failed to make an important distinction (I refered to “racist quotes,” and earlier warned him he was about to be banned, noting he was making racist comments– that is, characterizing what he said, which was unarguably racist, but not characterizing him), and that he’s made assumptions about my genealogy (from my name, perhaps?) that are inaccurate.  The man does have a foul mouth.

I’m not sure what brought this on, but have ruled out one possible explanation.

Update:

This just in:

Picture 12

If the man sues me in New Orleans, I’ll just remove it to federal court.  Then what’s he going to do?

Should have gone for the beer with me!

  • Former Defender

What did you expect, Tommy? He’d a done the same via the interweb ceptin’ you banned him.

  • NMC

Kennebunklegal, where are you? I’m ready for that beer now.

  • a friend of the law

Be careful Tom. This guy’s actions are disturbing. I never responded to any of his posts because it was clear to me early on that he is crazier than a shit house rat. These types are capable of most anything.

  • WantedToBeALawyer

NMC, I didn’t know you were Jewish.

  • NMC

Neither did my Presbyterian ancestors from Scotland, WTBAL (or the Episcopalian ones from England, etc.).

  • RazorRedux

If they adjust the voltage high enough to theoretically shock therapy him into common decency, it’s going to smell like burnt meat for miles downwind.

  • Fishwater

    Cutty Sark.

  • Ben

Arod has rounded the Big Bend, IMO, of course. There isn’t enough high voltage in Christendom to bring him back. The sooner we stop making any mention of him here, the better.

  • Goodness, how disturbing. And, amusing I am sure. At least that is how I felt when a defendant and his father hollared at me and gave me their fingers and were downright threatening toward me today.
And, they won the adverse possession case I was defending against for a client! Not because I anything I did not do or fail to present. People do seem to get upset. The man from New Orleans seems to have a short fuse. Also, he does not seem to like people who are Jewish. Troubling and not really amusing, really. America seems to like to hate.

Speaking of strange blogging moments, check out what I just went through.

Me: Listen up inner demons. Something strange is going on in NOLA, so I need to do a head count. Demon #1, in charge of irrationality
    Inner demon #1: Here
Me: Demon #2, in charge of alcohol consumption
    #2: (no response)
Me: Demon #3, in charge of political arguments
    #3: Here
Me: Demon #4, in charge of all other drugs, except alcohol
    #4: (no response)
Me: I need help. I have to call in the rational troops. Rational thinker #1?
    Rational #1: Here
Me: OK, I am putting out an APB for demons #2 and #4. We need to check out NOLA first
Demon #3: I volunteer to go to NOLA
Me: Sit your ass down, #3
Rational #1: Sir, I have reports that they have been spotted on Soutwest Street in Jackson
    Me: Danny’s or Babes?
Rational #1: Currently at Danny’s, sir
Demon #3: I volunteer to go, sir
Me: Sit your ass down, Demon #3. Demon #1 go and get ‘em and bring ‘em home, ASAP
Demon #1: (counting his one dollar bills) OK, I’ll be back in an hour or two
Me: You’ll be back in 30 minutes, #1
Demon #1: OK, do you have cab fare?
Me: Are there traffic demons? Get your ass perpindicular and go get #2 and #4. Pronto!

It has been 2 hours and I’m still waiting. What a day!

Geez, WTBAL, are all you gubmint employees this much fun?

  • Commentor

He could always sue you for less than $75,000. I’d just ignore it, hard to imagine that there is personal jurisdiction.

  • WantedToBeALawyer

pr1954, No, but some of us are. I think I am in a class by myself as to my personal failings.

But, I was lucky enough to be involved in an important project early in my career and make important contributions (Mississippi was one of the first states to utilize transmitting river data to satellites every four hours, and publishing it on the web. I set up the first 24 sites in MS, from installing the transmitters, to decoding the data, to transferring it to the national database).

How I keep passing the background checks, I have no idea. But, it seems to me that they are only worried about whether or not I was a drug dealer. I wasn’t, only a drug consumer, and I tell them that.

As a taxpayer, you will be glad to know that I have saved thousands of hours of labor due to my understanding of the process along with my programming skills. This week I wrote a program in 2 days for a project that was budgeted to take up to 600 hours of someone’s time. Instead, it will be 2 or 3 days. Administrators love that! I specialize in databases, transferring data, and transforming data. My expertise outweighs my personal character flaws, in the view of my agency. More than once, my supervisors have had to argue to their supervisors that it is worth keeping me.

America seems to like to hate.

From soccer moms, T-ball parents, religion, politics, just name it….”us versus them” is what makes us great? Right? Or so some think.

Me, I think it BS. But to some, they seem to live for it. And they die in their ignorance.

    Thank gawd for Sailor Jerry.

  • WantedToBeALawyer

NMC, I think i screwed up this page using the ul and li tags.

    Sorry.

  • mississippiman

His email makes him appear to be practicing law. He is disbarred, call the Louisiana Bar.

  • This would be hilarious if it wasn’t also kind of scary. The guy seems to have, you know, issues? No, wait. That’s not just issues, that’s a lifetime subscription!

  • I don’t mean to be off subject, has anyone heard when DeLaughter will be sentenced?

  • Ben

I’m striking out on another vector, similar to Jane: does it strike anyone else that Mike Moore has been conspicuous by his absence from the news scenes? Or maybe this is the New Mike: reticent and withdrawn? Just sayin’.

  • Only When I Laugh

Wow, I have missed alot this week. I cannot believe a lawyer (barred or not) would say and even worse, reduce to writing, such incendiary comments AND THEN ADD THAT HE WAS GOING TO SUE NMC! Issues???? Yep, a prima facie case has been met there. Is LA like CA where you can do a 5150 hold on him? I think his head may be in danger of exploding.

WTBAL, at least I’ve learned from this post that some of my state tax dollars are being spent wisely.

  • NMC

    Jane: It’s not yet scheduled.

  • RazorRedux

Hypothetically speaking, it would appear that the only thing worse than an idiot playing the race card is a racist playing the idiot card.

Not that anyone here reading or lurking would be a racist or an idiot of course, even if they appeared to display some of the same tendencies, behaviors and speech pattterns that the aforementioned would share.

  • WantedToBeALawyer

OWIL, that’s federal tax dollars (US Geological Survey), not state. However, we work closely with the state DEQ (Dept of Environmental Quality) and, in my opinion, they are professionally staffed, hard-working, and conscientious. As to DEQ, I feel my state tax dollars are well spent.

  • Only When I Laugh

WTBAL, since my extension is coming to an end for both of those, you have made me feel a little better on both counts come October 15th.

Razor Redux, that is one classic line in your first sentence there.

  • NotZachScruggs

That man sounds like a racist to me.

  • sailor

I recall that I accused him of making racist remarks as well. He has really gone around the bend now. The “crazies” out there should not simply be dismissed, however. They are dangerous and should be taken very seriously (think Holocaust Museum bombing, etc.).

  • Hatfield

What a Jackass. A true racist, his writings showed his racist ideas and the threats to NMC show his racist IQ. I would like to forward the email he sent to NMC to the Louisiana Bar as the signature line clearly represents him as a practicing lawyer. NMC don’t turn your back on this nut, its people like him who see violence as “Normal Behavior”.

  • Dragoman

NMC, I agree with Hatfield, sailor and AFOTL on exercising caution. This guy is a hothead with lots of time on his hands.

  • ampal

arod walks like, smells like, quacks like, thinks like, swears like, and even drools like one.

  • NMC

Dragoman, you mean next time I go to New Orleans, I shouldn’t have my picture taken in front of his house on St. Charles? Because he might be sitting back there on his patio like this?

  • Dragoman

Ah, yes! Cocktails on the patio with a 12 gauge pump and a box of buckshot near to hand. That’s our fellow.

  • sailor

Seriously, NMC, I think to err on the side of caution would be wise. Might even want to alert local authorities of his threats.

Please recall that the “nut” who shot up the fitness center had “crazy” rants published all over the internet, as well…

  • bellesouth

That picture was taken September 16, 2005 — right after Katrina. He had to have that gun to protect himself and his property those days.

  • NMC

He made national news about that, bellesouth.

  • bellesouth

Then is there any doubt about why he is sitting on his patio with a gun? I hope not, not during those days. You know sometimes when people get really really angry, it usually means they have something really really to be angry about. Maybe Katrina drove him over the edge of acceptable human behavior. He certainly won’t be the first or last of those still suffering those terrible weeks, months, years after Katrina.

  • cmwalters2180

I am reminded of the old story about Willie Morris calling David Duke’s campaign headquarters and paging Ava Braun.

The receptionist replied and stated that there was no one there by that name. Willie said “so much of Nazi’s having a sense of history”. I guess the same could be said of a sense of irony??
