Here’s a list of 100 Free Classic Films Everyone Should See, which included a link to each movie so you can watch it on your computer.
It’s quite a list. Some acknowledged classics– Gance’s Napoleon, Lang’s M (which made Peter Lore a star), Nosferatu, The 39 Steps, The Man Who Knew To Much (the last two Hitchcock movies while he was still in England), The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Freaks, Roshamon, and one of my twenty or so all time favorites, The Third Man. Major movies from every genre are there– classic Hollywood comedy (His Girl Friday, Animal Crackers), noir (D.O.A., The Hitchicker. Kansas City Confidential, He Walked By Night, Detour), b-movies, and some famously bad movies.
What it brought to mind for me most of all was the sorts of movies I was watching regularly when As Seen on TV was still open. You could do a heckuva film series from these apparently out-of-copyright films.

I watch 1984 at least once a year because, when its over, I feel so much better about the state of the world! The Third Man is one of my favorite movies of all time. I have the Criterion Edition DVD. I didn’t know the copyright had lapsed on it.
What a great site! Thanks. Here’s another site that features links to classic movies. I suspect most are duplicates, but you never know.
