Devins’ father Scott and i are close friends. spend almost everything Thanksgiving together. He is a great kid with lots and lots of talent. He has to play Rog right off the bat!

    6-1, 6-3, 7-5, Federer.

I only saw the last set, and it was great.

McEnroe’s analysis of Britton’s game was very interesting, and complimentary.

He looked extremely nervous in the 18 minute first set but then kind of settled in after that. I agreed with the commentators that he needed to come into the net more cause hardly anyone can hang with Federer from the baseline. All that being said, he got 9 games off of arguably the best player ever (Rafa will surpass him, i think and hope) on center court of a tournament that federer has won for 5 years running now. He broke him twice, and he aced him on a number of occasions as well. In getting beat by federer in 3 straight sets, he did exactly what most players do against Federer. All in all, he looked like he belonged on the pro tour.

Agreed, JaxRelief. He belonged on the court. Federer might go down as the best in history. Britton, in his second professional match, coulda, woulda, shoulda, won the third set. On the other hand, Federer owned the match, and it was never in doubt. But, Britton had the chance to win the third set. Too many first serve faults, IMO. Britton has a nice ace shot at both the centerline, especially, and outside, despite a lack of speed (104 mph) on his first serve.

Nadal will not surpass Federer. Nadal is a clay-court specialist. Nadal will have more French Open championships, than the other three (U.S., Australian, & Wimbeldon) combined.

nadal won a grand slam on all 3 surfaces before federer did, and at age 23 to boot (completed that in the past year by beating federer on both grass and hard court grand slam finals). he has beaten federer on all 3.

nadal’s will power is like no one else’s, and that’s why i love the guy (and because it’s something I lack). that’s also why i think he will win more than federer in the long run. it’s also why he may get injured early in his career and not get that many – because he just doesn’t know how to quit.

if he wins the US Open this year he will have completed the career grand slam at age 23. WTBAL, he may very well win more french opens than the other 3, but he may also win 12 french opens. i think he has amply shown that he can play on grass and hard courts.

sorry, NMC, but with the US Open going on I needed somewhere to talk a little tennis and a little Rafa, and I recalled this post. i had been meaning to respond to WTBAL as well.

    Thanks.
