Bunk Johnson’s “Closer Walk With Thee,” my dad, and Port Gibson

My father was a trad jazz fan (and clarinet player), and loved revival music of the forties from New Orleans.

About that time, he and some friends worked their way into the steeple of the First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson, which had loudspeakers connected to a record player. They set it up playing New Orleans’ Bunk Johnson playing “Closer Walk With Thee.”

It was a major moment for me as a record collector when I came upon that 78.

Sorry to leave the blog boring; only this and Monday have been full days in the office in the last two weeks, and yesterday was a just delightful ten hour mediation that did not work out….

Crap like that is why I hate mediation. There should be a time limit agreed in advance. If a case can’t be settled in 3 or 4 hours, there’s one side that doesn’t want to settle it.
