Blues Trail Marker free iPhone app

The Mississippi Blues Trail has gone one notch better, with a free iphone app with information about all the markers and where to find them.

There’s a map locating all of them; you can use it to find the markers…

…and to see the information that is contained there. The one below is the marker for Ace Records, which is just a few steps west of the Mayflower Restaurant on West Capital in Jackson. Pictures from the markers are also in the app.

There’s a video section, too, with number of very interesting videos on general subjects like rediscoveries, Gospel, Saturday night blues, folks ranging from Muddy Waters to Son House to Bobby Rush, and places like Shake Rag. Below is an image from the vido about the Rabbits Foot Minstrel, related to the blues marker in Port Gibson.

Like everything else connected to the Mississippi Blues Trail, this is really first rate. Congratulations are in order, particularly to my friends Jim O’Neal and Scott Barretta, who have been involved in the research and writing for these markers from their inception.
