The Commercial Appeal reports that John Lee Wicks, the accused Las Vegas federal courthouse shooter, has a violent past in Memphis, where he killed his brother year in a fit of anger in 1974.

The Appeal has an excellent survey of Willie Mitchell’s career in its obituary today. Andria Lisle’s personal memories of Mitchell are in the Memphis Flyer.

This is strange– two texting-leads-to-shooting stories in one day? Here’s one in Savannah, and here’s one from Jackson (in the jail no less)

So … where does this leave the “fighting words” defense? Are texted fighting words as overwhelming to one’s sensitivities and capacity for rational thought as are spoken words?

And why is the print size now so small here? Appears to be a form of age discrimination.

Seems the student fight/stabbing at Clinton High also involved mad texting, according to the CL

If you scroll down the left column on this blog page to “Mississippi and Local: Press” and click on the Tupelo Daily Journal, you will see a photo of a chilly snake taken by C. Todd Sherman. There is an excellent shot of ducks also, but the snake is awesome.

The difficulty with this theory in my opinion is one of perps was killed and he was not killed without of authority of law. In fact, he was shot by a law enforcement officer in commission of a crime. ..
