Super Bowl parties– what are you cooking?

I’m going to do a giant pot of chicken and sausage gumbo for a party Sunday.  Not sure what else to go with it…

What’s on at other parties?

    Jambalaya, mon ami!

Oh, and there will be king cake, of course.

bread, and I’m pondering what else.

  • I made the chicken and sausage gumbo from John Besh’s My New Orleans for the NFC Championship, and it was mighty good! I left out the okra, though, because I just don’t love okra.

For the Super Bowl, I making Besh’s jambalaya and a homemade King Cake. We are going to start out with a buffalo chicken dip and guacamole, though. To me, football games just aren’t the same without a good guacamole.

Like Hatfield, we’ll have Beer, beer, and more beer. Probably Chimay if my hubby remembers to bootleg it from Louisiana. Mmm Mmm good.

Seafood gumbo with okra, muffulettas, sausage balls made with sage pork sausage, hot wings and the usual chips and dip, beer, bourbon and champaign cocktails. Praline cup cakes for a sweet.

I do wish the Saints would lose that “Who Dat” chant. We’re all trying to move forward and they keep dragging us back with mocking negro language that came out of blackface minstral shows.

Peyton Manning scares the heck out of me but I am just going to enjoy the Saints being there and pray for a close score.

    Have a great weekend.

A lot of the local white folks say “Dat” as well, so it is hardly “mocking negro language”…

WaySouth need only experience a little Justin Wilson to realize the rich cultural heritage that washes over all of south Louisiana.

I am gonna make a batch of ribs following Mike Mill’s Apple City BBQ World Championship recipe. Wife was nice enough to get me his book so I reckon I will fire up the grill. Sounds some kinda good and time spent with a smoker and ribs is never wasted.

Agree with Blues Lover, as an adopted New Orleanian, I can attest to the rife use of “dat” by any all New Orleanians when the situation is appropriate.
