New City Grocery / Big Bad Popup– Memphis’ Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman

Chefs Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman of the restaurants Hog and Hominy and Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, both in the Clark Towers area of Memphis, are doing the next popup.  I’ve heard wonderful things about Andrew Michael, and read wonderful things about it and Hog and Hominy.

Their menu works off their restaurants Southern / Italian themes, obviously– an oyster gumbo with ricotta black pepper gnudi, for instance, and a mortadella corn dog.  I’m particularly looking forward to the Roman gnocchi with lamb bolognese and to the espresso caramelized carrots.

It all starts tomorrow, runs through Saturday, with service from 5:30 till about 9:30ish.  Next week, it’s Kelly English of Restaurant Iris, also in Memphis.

  • I enjoyed the first week. Tried to go last week and there were too many people. I have to say this week’s menu does not appeal to me at all.

Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins. I’m happy to say that snark isn’t on the list.

(What’d you say? Pride? Oh come now …)

    … Wikipedia:

Aquinas went so far as to prepare a list of six ways to commit gluttony, comprising:
    Praepropere – eating too soon.
    Laute – eating too expensively.
    Nimis – eating too much.
Ardenter – eating too eagerly (burningly).
Studiose – eating too daintily (keenly).
    Forente – eating wildly (boringly).
