The City Grocery is doing a series of pop-up restaurants at its Main Event catering kitchen (on 1005 North Lamar, just south of and across the street from the Beacon) this month while the starbase itself is closed for renovations. This week (Jan 9-12) features Israeli Street Food with Top Chef constestant Eli Kirchstein. It’s all going to be moderately priced small plates and there will be a bar and wine. Here’s the menu and some pictures. I’m going!!
Update:
Brilliant meal, and priced to be a great bargain. Go with a table of at least four, so you can try one-of-everything; they are small plates, and with a table of four, we had everything except the cold hummus and the falafel wrap (we had the other falafel dish). Everything was very good, but the Turkish hummus (intense toasted garlic), the cauliflower (I’ve asked for the recipe), and the meat balls were particularly outstanding. There was a debate at my table between the potato latkes (best hashbrowns you will ever eat) and the persimmon dish about which was the exemplary closer.
You have until Saturday on this one. Check it out.

Don’t know how you do it; how much time you must spend on this site! It sure is fun and interesting. Good going, and thanks for the pleasure you provide. An interesting mix. I particularly enjoyed the tif with neighbors and your front lawn.
I’m heading over tonight with a small group. Thanks for scoping it for us!
