I am Tom Freeland, a lawyer in Oxford, Mississippi. The picture in the header is my law office. I'm on Twitter as NMissC
I started (co)blogging as NMC in early 2008 on the Folo blog, (with coblogger Lotus); that blog went on hiatus in March, 2009. In 2005, I covered Fifth Circuit cases for the (now defunct) Appellate Law and Practice blog.

I’ve decided to avoid thinking about football today

… and instead contemplate the infamous no hitter Doc Ellis pitched while tripping on LSD in 1970.  Here’s an animated short with him telling the story in his own words.

I was shown this at a party Friday night. I think it is a brilliant piece of work.

NMC — you usually post of your post-ole miss game glee but that post was understandably absent this weekend. i know you run this place but, since you have at least made it somewhat of a public forum and seeing as 90% of what is discussed here is Mississippi related there must be a discussion of went down in Starkville on Saturday. let this post simply kick off that discussion.

The Egg Bowl is a paradox.
We beat them and the feeling is nice but expected.
We lose to them and the feeling is sick, like waking up dirty with a horrid hangover AND a nasty person who couldn’t even get into State.

I hate that they played the toughest schedule in college football and we played some Memphis States and directional schools from Louisiana and Arizona. That we won’t play Southern makes the situation worse. That their coach from New Hampshire is good AND plays to his audience makes the situation even worse. And don’t even get me started that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band has played on campus in Starkvile and not Oxford.
    Now I want no lunch.
